How to play

Play Tumblespell free online

Tumblespell is a free online word puzzle played with a pile of painted toy blocks. Spell the target word by tapping the next letter's block, but only blocks with nothing on top can be taken. Tossing a free block off to dig deeper makes the pile wobble, and four wobbles tumble it. It plays in the browser on phone or computer, with no sign-in. Each pile is rebuilt after a tumble, so you can retry the same word with fresh insight.

How to play Tumblespell

  1. Read the word on the rail at the top and tap its letters in order. Only a free block can be moved: one with nothing resting on top. Dim blocks are stuck under another block. A right block flies into the next slot of the word.
  2. Is the letter you need buried? Tap a free block that is not the next letter to toss it off the pile and dig down. Every toss makes the pile wobble, and the fourth wobble tumbles it: you lose a heart and the pile is rebuilt. You have three hearts for ten words.
  3. A block the word still needs will not leave the pile, and a take that would strand the word is refused, so every pile can be finished. Fewer wobbles and a quicker word score more, and hearts left count at the end. HINT glows the best block to tap, 2 free per run.

Tumblespell tips

  • Study which blocks cover the letters you need, then dig the shortest route to them.
  • Toss only blocks you must, since each toss adds a wobble to the pile.
  • Keep an eye on the four wobble pips, because the fourth one costs a heart.

Tumblespell questions

Can every pile be solved?
Yes. Every pile is checked before it is dealt: some order of taps always spells the word, and the game never lets you make a move that would leave the word impossible. A hint shows the next block of the shortest plan.
Why did a block not move?
A block with another block on top of it is stuck, and tapping it costs nothing. A free block the word still needs will not be tossed (it only wobbles the pile), and when two blocks show the right letter, the game may ask you to use the other one first.
How long does a game last?
A run is ten words, usually two to four minutes. It ends when you finish the tower or lose your third heart.
