Play Lantern Lines free online
Lantern Lines is a free online crossword set at a night festival, where the cells are paper lanterns floating in the sky. Tap a cell to pick a word, read its clue, and type the answer. Right words lock in gold, and wrong ones pop out only the letters that are off. It plays in the browser on phone or computer, with no sign-in. Each stage clears when every word is solved, and a chain of right words scores more.
How to play Lantern Lines
- Read the clue in the panel: it says which word to fill (for example 3 DOWN) and how many letters it has. Tap a cell of that word, then type the answer on the on-screen keyboard. Tap a crossing cell again to switch between across and down.
- A word that is right locks and lights up, and its letters help the words that cross it. A full word that is wrong costs 3 seconds and pops its wrong letters out. The arrows in the clue panel jump to the next clue.
- One clock runs the whole game: every cleared grid adds time and the grids grow from 5 x 5 to 9 x 9. The star clue pays bonus time. HINT reveals a letter (2 free per run), CHECK removes every wrong letter for 3 seconds.
Lantern Lines tips
- Start with the short words and the clues you are certain of, since their letters help crossing words.
- Tap the highlighted cell again to flip between across and down for the same square.
- Wait until a word is full before judging it, because half-typed words are never punished.
Lantern Lines questions
- Can every grid be solved?
- Yes. Each grid is built from a bank of everyday words with a clue for each, so every word you see has a clue and fits the cells that cross it. Words are plain English and family friendly.
- How long does a game last?
- Usually one to four minutes. You start with 40 seconds, each cleared grid adds time, and the bonus shrinks as the grids get bigger, so every run ends.
- What do HINT and CHECK do?
- HINT puts the right letter in the selected cell (two free per run). CHECK removes every wrong letter on the board, but costs 3 seconds, so use it when you are really stuck.
