How to play

Play Ribbonsnip free online

Ribbonsnip is a free online logic puzzle in a gift workshop. A rule card sits above a box with several ribbons, and you snip them one at a time in the one order the rules allow. After every snip the right rule can change, so you read the card again. It plays in the browser on phone or computer, with no sign-in, and runs last twelve boxes. Each box is small, so one clean read of the card is often enough to finish it.

How to play Ribbonsnip

  1. A gift box lets coloured ribbons hang out of its lid. A cream rule card above it lists numbered rules such as "Cut the LEFTMOST BLUE ribbon" or "With 2+ STRIPED ribbons, cut the RIGHTMOST". Before each snip, read the card from the top and use the FIRST rule that fits the ribbons that are still left. Tap that ribbon to snip it, or press its big colour button (a button snips the leftmost ribbon of its colour).
  2. Every snip changes which rules fit, so read the card again after each cut. Ribbons differ by colour (each colour has its own shape on the plug), stripes and knots. A wrong snip or a burnt fuse puts out one of your three sparks; with none left the box pops. Open all twelve boxes to win.
  3. Faster boxes and perfect boxes (no mistake) score more. HINT lights up the ribbons the right rule is about: 2 free per game.

Ribbonsnip tips

  • Read the rules from the top and use the first one that fits the ribbons still hanging.
  • Re-read the card after every cut, since each snip changes which rule applies.
  • Use the shapes on the ribbon plugs, not only colours, to tell similar ribbons apart.

Ribbonsnip questions

Is there only one right order?
Yes. The first rule that fits always names exactly one ribbon, so each box has exactly one right snip order. The game checks this for every box it deals.
What does a colour button do?
It snips the leftmost ribbon of that colour that is still there. For a rightmost or striped ribbon, tap the ribbon itself. Pressing a colour that is not there counts as a wrong snip.
How long does a game last?
Usually one to three minutes. It ends when all twelve boxes are open or the third spark goes out.
